North Korea voiced strong support for Iran on Thursday amid escalating tensions with Israel, with a spokesperson from Pyongyang’s foreign ministry expressing deep concern over Israel’s military strikes against Iran. According to the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the official accused Israel of heightening the risk of a full-scale war in the Middle East.
The spokesperson described Israel as a “cancerous threat” to regional peace, alleging it is backed by the United States and Western allies, and labeled it a primary destabilizing force globally. The official further condemned Israel for its “blatant aggression” in violating Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The spokesperson also warned that Israel and its supporters would bear full responsibility for undermining global peace and security.
North Korea’s stance underscores its longstanding alliance with Iran, forged in 1973 and strengthened by shared experiences of Western sanctions over their nuclear and weapons programs.
The Iran-Israel conflict has intensified following Israel’s military operation, dubbed ‘Operation Rising Lion.’ Both nations have pledged to escalate their attacks despite international pleas for de-escalation. The United States, meanwhile, is considering its response, with President Donald Trump indicating that options are still under review. The ongoing clashes have resulted in at least 224 deaths in Iran and 24 in Israel.
