On Friday, President Donald Trump stated that Iran has up to two weeks to avoid potential U.S. airstrikes, indicating he might act before the deadline he mentioned the previous day. Speaking to reporters, Trump set a two-week limit as the maximum timeframe, emphasizing his hope that Iran would “come to their senses.” He dismissed European diplomatic efforts, asserting that Iran prefers direct talks with the U.S. and that European nations, including Britain, France, Germany, and the EU, cannot influence the situation.
Trump also rejected the idea of urging Israel to halt its attacks, despite Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s condition that talks with the U.S. would not resume until the strikes stop.
Arriving in Morristown, New Jersey, Trump noted it was challenging to make such a request when Israel holds the advantage, but he added that the U.S. is in communication with Iran and open to seeing how events unfold.
On Thursday, Trump had indicated a two-week window for deciding on a strike, citing a significant possibility of negotiations. His Friday remarks, however, suggested a potential for earlier action if Iran does not show progress in scaling back its nuclear program.
